Teo Seng – One of Malaysia’s largest egg producer

Teo Seng Capital Berhad is one of Malaysia’s largest layer farmer and egg producer. All the farms are located in Johor. Egg production has reached 3.8 million eggs a day and is expected to increase to 4 million eggs by end 2020. About 40% of the eggs produced are exported mainly to Hong Kong and Singapore. It has captured almost 19% market share of the Singapore commercial egg production industry. For the financial year ended 31 December 2019 Teo Seng reported a revenue of RM547.1 million and pre-tax profit of RM41.29million. Going forward, Teo Seng will be focusing on promoting its premium Omega Lutein eggs to boost sales.

Teo Seng started as a poultry business in the 1970s but in the 1990s made a strategic shift from rearing broiler chickens to layer farming (rearing egg laying poultry birds for the purpose of egg production). Besides egg production, Teo Seng also manufactures egg trays for internal use and sale, produces organic fertiliser from chicken manure, produces animal feed, and trades in related animal health products.

Teo Seng is a subsidiary of Lau family controlled Leong Hup International Bhd, Malaysia’s largest poultry player with a turnover of RM6.5 billion in 2019. Non-executive Chairman Lau Jui Peng is the only Lau family member on the Board of Teo Seng. The company’s business is managed by Nam Hiok Joo, the Managing Director, and his nephews – Na Eluen (Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Marketing), Na Yi Chan (Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Layer Farming Division) and Nam Ya Jun, (Executive Director, Animal Health Products Division). It is declared in the 2018 annual report of Teo Seng Capital Berhad that the MD, Nam Hiok Joo is the brother of shareholders of Teo Seng, Na Yok Chee and Na Hap Cheng.
